Keilor Police Hut

The Keilor Police Hut is a cast iron and corrugated galvanised iron prefabricated cottage, and used as a Police Hut on the Keilor Plain from c1853. It appears that the building was relocated a number of times. Since the 1940’s it was used as a shed.

In 2012, Brimbank Council and the Keilor Historical Society agreed to dismantle and re-erect the now dilapidated hut to the Council owned site at Keilor Park. An archeological survey was undertaken and the building was dismantled and housed under a temporary shelter where it lay until funding became available. The interior was divided into two parts. One half reflects the probable treatment of the original interior based on the findings of the archaeology report and remnant timber members. The unlined half is fully exposed allowing the visibility of the original fabric and introduced structure.
